Chapter Fourteen

Sammie

I STIFLE A LAUGH AS I fall onto my bed. I’ve never seen Cole so unnerved and frazzled in my entire life. He’s normally full of confidence and struts around like he’s amazing. He doesn’t have a massive ego or anything but he’s comfortable in his own skin. He knows his ability and limitations.

Jesse: How did he take it?

Sammie: He followed me upstairs like a lost puppy, but I shut my door before he could talk to me.

Jesse: He wanted to punch me.

Sammie: He wouldn’t have.

Jesse: I wouldn’t be so sure about that. You should’ve seen his face when I told him to take care of my girl. He wanted to hit me.

Sammie: I don’t know why you’re willing to help me but I appreciate it.

Jesse: What can I say, I love to help people. I'm a sucker for a good love story.

Sammie: I'm going to call it a night, get changed and go to bed.

Jesse: Tell Cole you can't unzip your dress, ask him to help you.

Sammie: I can do it myself.

Jesse: I know you can, ask him anyway. Report back on how he reacts.

I throw my phone down on my bed, taking a deep breath. I'm playing with fire and I know it. I'm worried how Cole will respond if I push him too far. I'm afraid he’ll fall for this crap and make a move. I'm scared because I want him to. I want him to make a move, I want him to kiss me.

“Hey, Cole?” I call into the empty hallway.

Music is blaring from his direction; he probably can't hear me. I tiptoe down the hall, peeking into his room. He’s sprawled out on his back in the center of his bed. His toned arms on full display, one thrown over his eyes, the other behind his head. He looks sexy as hell. His shirt has ridden up to his belly button exposing his smooth stomach and a small amount of hair that disappears into the waist band of his pants.

I step as quietly as I can over to the bed, trailing a finger across his stomach. He shoots up in bed, eyes wide in surprise. I bite my bottom lip in an attempt to hide my smile but it doesn’t help.

“Can you help me with my dress? I can't unzip it myself.”

He looks me up and down, taking in every single detail. His gaze focuses on my teeth biting into my bottom lip. His eyes are dark and stormy, I could get lost in them. He bites his own lip and I swear, the way he’s staring at me right now will forever be seared into my brain.

He stands, placing his hands on my hips. He’s so close I can feel his warm breath fanning across my skin. Goosebumps spread down my neck. He grips my hips a little tighter before turning me around to face away from him. Cole’s hands trail up my ribs, up my back, to the top of my dress. He tugs the zipper down so slowly I want to squirm away from him.
